Fourth of July Lesson Plans for Parents

Usually, school is not in session on the Fourth of July. While many schools touch on the subject of the reason for this holiday, it is up to the parents to ensure that their child completely understands the Fourth of the July and why it is that we celebrate it. There are numerous ways that parents can accomplish this task. Here, in this article, we will review Fourth of July lesson plans that you can use in order to effectively teach your children about this very important holiday in American history.

One of the first things that you can do as a parent in order to effectively teach a child about the Fourth of July is to seek out music that is patriotic in nature. There are numerous CD’s on the market that contain patriotic music for children. You can help a child learn these songs. You can play games and doing other activities in order to ensure that a child learns the lyrics to the songs. Once the songs have been learned, you should review the lyrics with the child and explain what they mean. If you are unsure yourself, there are numerous websites that explain the history and meaning behind patriotic songs.

If you want to teach your children about the Fourth of July another great activity is to visit one of the National cemeteries and place flowers on the graves of soldiers who have died to ensure our freedom as Americans. This will help children to understand that the freedom that we have as Americans is very special. Many people throughout history have given their lives in order that we can enjoy the rights that we have in America. This is also a great time to explain the basic rights of Americans. It is also important for children to understand that each American has a certain number of responsibilities. You could take the time to briefly outline these responsibilities as well.

If you want to explain to a child what the Fourth of July is about, you could visit your local library and check out books that are relevant to the history of America. For example, you may want to review famous people in American history like certain presidents, and other historical figure. A great historical figure to review when teaching about the Fourth of July is Betsy Ross. Once you have reviewed special contributors to American history, you should implement various activities in order to keep the impact of the educational experience fresh in the mind of the child that you are teaching.

Lastly, you can teach children about the Fourth of July by placing a flag in or around your home. This can lead to a discussion on what the various colors and symbols of the flag represent. You can also attend a firework party in which you can explain to the child why we celebrate the Fourth of July by shooting off fireworks.
